Moving Back To KDE4

Journal Entry: Thu Jun 14, 2012, 3:28 AM

Just packing my things up and dumping GNOME3, going back to KDE4, so expect KDE4 customisation goodies. I might bring the Carbon Plasma theme back from the dead, which I did years ago, some of you might know what I'm talking about.

It's nice that KDE4 have worked hard to bring customisation back to their users, in small part I helped in that while helping KDE upstream. If you didn't know, I made this video for KDE4.4 while I was contributing, I also made a lot of the KDE Games themes, especially the Egyptian style and some UI elements like the Desktop Settings. You can see my name in the credits of the KDE Games themes.

May as well give it a whir and see if you like it. The default isn't great as it's a bit too verbose but it's fully customisable.

We all have our reasons.

Well, that's a shame. You made some damn good themes, but I can't be mad. The Gnome Shell is a steaming pile of crap and it seems to be getting worse with each new idea I here of from the Gnome dev's. I was about to make the switch to KDE, but Cinnamon has pulled me back to the Gnome world (at least the base system). Cinnamon is still very young and not quite there yet, but it at least gives me hope. I've been using Linux since Fedora 7 and I've always been a Gnome/GTK guy. Old habits die hard I guess :)

Joining in the welcome-back-wishing crowd :)

We really need more artwork. Oxygen/Air and others are quite nice as the default, but we need more fresh alternatives.

I may have to try kde 4, only if only you can make some amazing themes. My problem is kde seems so bloatish, I love minimalism. How do you feel about [link]

I think it's fine for people with old machines but us users want customisation and choice, KDE gives use that and you can make it look minimal.
