menu etc. are *too transparent* (for my taste) and I have spent considerable time

of code to tweak this?
The look is fine if there is nothing in the workspace but if I have a browser
window open (for example) it shines through the drop down bubbles which

the opacity/transparency of the dropdown system menu and the
calendar? I feel like I've tried everything and can't get the
opacity to change, yet if I change themes obviously it does change,
so it *must* be controlled by gnome-shell.css, right?
You can adjust the transparency by the last number of the background colour which is alpha
Basically the test in the bubbles for each window, on the window overview display is missing, but only on my 2nd monitor.
explicitly specifying color: under .window-caption, resolves this issue, and also the theme preview in fmurphy's theme selector (which also suffers from the same black text issue)
